Download kit Am I HIP ?

Let's note one point before we start: I'll talk aboutsymptomsanddiagnosis, as if High Intellectual Potential was a disease. In fact, this is not the case at all! Being a zebra person is neither good nor bad.

The idea of detection of the gift.

The different symptoms of HIP

The HIP is not similar in adults and children. That's why I wanted to make a distinction between the two: each its symptoms!

Symptoms of HIP in children

If you are looking for a symptom of HIP In a child, you have to focus on four points of your personality: your attitude, your interests, your sensitivity, and your way of learning.

Early childhood attitude:

  • He has a developed sense of humor
  • Fast boredom and can be "in the moon"
  • He can make very relevant thoughts

The interests of the child HIP :

  • He's very curious, likes to understand everything.
  • Is passionate about several subjects at once... then changes
  • Loves strategy games

The sensitivity of a zebra child

  • It's a person. Highly Sensitive Person, or hyperesthetic
  • He has a strong need for recognition.
  • Best chat with older people
  • Very sensitive to injustice (even if he is not the victim)

Child learning HIP

  • He learns quickly and easily
  • Prefer complex activities to avoid boredom
  • Don't like to learn "bully", without context

These first symptoms of the child HIP Talk to you?

Be aware that I have posted a early childhood detection test that will help you see more clearly.

Symptoms of HIP Adult

In adults, it is a different caulia. I grouped the 7 symptoms of HIP in adults most often mentioned to me:

  1. Hypersensitivity which may be emotional (your emotions are roller coasters), or sensory(your 5 senses are very developed)
  2. Creativity: it is often said that HIP are artists. Is that from there? I don't know. In any case, I get a lot of messages from gifted people who have an artistic part in their lives.
  3. Curiosity: you can be interested in all subjects (and each time at 200%!)
  4. Extralucidity : it is a somewhat surprising concept, but it corresponds to the strong intuition of people HIP.
  5. The feeling of lag: usually present since childhood, it also continues in adult life. This is related to our difference which is not necessarily understood
  6. Perfectionism: Many of you share with me your love and your need for perfection. You want everything to be always perfect. It's certainly related to your hypersensitivity that makes you enjoy beautiful things.
  7. The sense of justice: are you sensitive to the injustices of the world?

I went deeper into these 7 signs of adult HIP in the video below:

Whether it's for the child or for the adult, note that these are only symptoms, clues. You do not have to meet all the criteria.

These are just elements that are there to put the chip in your ear!

How do I know I'm HIP ?

I'm going to disappoint more than one: to this day alone IQ test (like WAIS 4) allows to validate or not the HIP Officially. And that's a shame, because passing this test costs several hundred euro and is not within everyone's reach.

It is in particular to play on this frustration that many free IQ tests online to the questionable reliability appear.

Similarly, some renowned psychologists in the field (such as Monique de Kermadec) develop alternative methods to detect HIP based on the symptoms seen above.

This is called the method Clinical of the High potential test.

The idea is simple: if you have a number of symptoms of HIP among a defined list, then you can be said to be (High Intellectual Potential).

Not surprisingly, not everyone agrees with this. But it has the merit to exist so I wanted to tell you about it.

According to Monique de Kermadec, here is the list of symptoms of HIP :

  1. They are perfectionists who always set the bar very high (for others and for them)
  2. Gives more importance to personal challenges than to societal titles
  3. Seek the truth and want to give meaning to life
  4. Has great moral convictions. He is indignant about injustice and has a lot of integrity.
  5. Can defend his point of view and ideal with passion
  6. Regularly needs moments alone to contemplate
  7. Has very high sensory hypersensitivity
  8. Self-critical and denigrating for lack of self-confidence
  9. Not often a great success at 35
  10. It is very lucid about the world around it
  11. Not comfortable in society
  12. Has a very great ability to have strong reasoning (and it takes pleasure to do so)
  13. Adore learn new things
  14. Loves solving complex and abstract problems
  15. Has passionate feelings
  16. Feels regularly alone despite his great empathy
  17. Question authority and refuse to comply

If you recognize yourself in 8 of these symptoms HIP, you can start wondering about your High Intellectual Potential. And beyond 12 you are a person HIP.

How to recognize a symptom HIP ?

There is a very thin line between real symptom HIP and "just" an element of personality. And so far there is no answer.

If you only recognize yourself in one symptom of High Intellectual Potential, then it is likely that this does not concern you.

On the other hand, if you recognize yourself in several, that's where it gets interesting.

Also remember that these symptoms are made from averages. So you can very well be a zebra person and do not recognize yourself.

For my part, some do not apply to who I am and it is no big deal.

Even if we are all part of the same herd of zebras, we remain zebras in their own right. Each person is different. The High Intellectual Potential is only a part of us, but under no circumstances are we as a whole.

Do not lock yourself in these mild symptom descriptions HIP, but use them to question you and get to know you.
